Why Killer Copy Can’t Save Your Lead Capture Forms

you’re wasting time…

If your visitors aren’t filling your lead forms, then fixing your opt-in copy won’t help.

You need a bribe that COMMANDS obedience. Here’s one way to convert more traffic into leads, subscribers, and buyers.

First, a quick story to help demonstrate…

The phone rang.

It was Zizo.

“Hey, what’re you doing?” he asked.

“I’m in bed,” I responded groggily.

“Bro, you’ve gotta get over here NOW,” he said excitedly, “all the guys from Palmy are here – Moey, Veve, Kuteiba, and Ronny…” he continued. These were our old university friends.

i reluctantly agreed to come out and Zizo texted me the address.

When i arrived, everyone was indeed there, except for one feller who, as i learned that night, had passed away.

We caught up for an hour before going our separate ways.

Consider how Zizo called me just as I was falling asleep…

His offer dictated his tone and language. If he’d been offering something else, the language would’ve been different. As would my motivation to get out of bed.

Similarly, if your opt-in page isn’t converting, you don’t have a copy problem. Copy simply communicates the underlying offer. You’ve got a BRIBE problem. (ie, you’re offering something shyt)

For example, suppose you write the opt-in headline,

“Learn How I Went From Broke To $50,000 My First Month.”

Such a headline packages the solution to the visitor’s problem (lack of money) as a PAST event. It’s already happened.

Subconsciously, your visitor recognises that people tend to lie about past accomplishments. Besides, there are no witnesses to verify the truthfulness of such a surprising claim.

So while you’re making big statements about what you’ve supposedly done, the visitor hovering over your lead capture form is wondering…

“How do I know if this really happened?” …. “What if this doesn’t work anymore?” …. “What if they’re not telling the whole story?”

By making such an exaggerated claim, you force the visitor to focus his objections around his belief of you.

Also, if you’re not bragging about your past achievements, you’re likely pitching a future event, eg,

“Learn How To Get 20,000 Facebook Leads For Pennies.”

Future events have not happened yet, so they are unproven. By making a big promise about a rosy future, you force the visitor to consider if they believe what you’re offering in exchange for their email.

In a world riddled with empty promises, visitors intuitively know that such a promise will require them to do work and wait a long time to see if a good result materialises. The passing of time creates doubt. They can’t help but wonder whether or not they can trust a promise from you…someone they don’t know.

In reality, people best respond to and believe small benefits they can have NOW, over large, exaggerated benefits they might have far in the future.

Just like when Zizo called, his offer was to spend time with old friends who were meeting up then and there. I was the only one missing. All i had to do to know if Zizo was telling the truth was to turn up.

In fact, it never occurred to me to question his honesty. i was concerned with getting there quickly so i don’t miss out.

Similarly, look at these offer examples, each is a small solution that intuitively can quickly and easily be verified…

“The Kiss Test: How To Tell If A Woman Is Ready For Your Kiss And How To Avoid Rejection” (dating niche)

“Feel Full For 6 Hrs With This Food Timing Trick” (weight loss niche)

By using a quickly verifiable, small promise, you shift focus from belief and trust to immediate action.

Immediacy is just one of three elements of building a better bribe.
