What a day.
After checking my emails and ppc campaigns, I popped in to see mum – she arrived from overseas in the wee-hours of the morning.
Took my phone down. Was dead. No charge.
Luckily, the charger was with me. Plugged in. Still no juice.
It wasn’t for at least an hour before I realized the power was out.
Yep. Blackout. The whole neighborhood.
The city hasn’t delivered water here for two months either.
Our storage wells have been running on vapour.
I checked with the neighbors and discovered they’re having the same problem.
I swear to god it’s like living in the dark ages. And I’m getting sick of it.
Anyway, so I took a drive down the road and requested a truck come fill the water wells for the building.
The price was up – about THREE times the normal rate. Since everyone else is in need of water lately.
Right here, this is an ECONOMIC principle that few online entrepreneurs understand.
SUPPLY and DEMAND.
A reminder –
When supply exceeds demand, price goes DOWN. Businesses have to start competing with one another because they’re in a place of weakness; they have stock they can’t sell.
When demand exceeds supply, price goes UP. Businesses are in power since all their stock is being bought up.
And it’s NO DIFFERENT when buying advertising on the internet.
Engines like Google and Facebook have a GREAT BIG supply of advertising space.
Whereas, networks like LinkedIN, Bing, and Yahoo have much less supply.
There are fewer users so fewer queries, fewer advertising opportunities.
On the other hand, DEMAND by advertisers on Facebook has increased this year.
Since demand is now exceeding supply, cost per click for advertisers is higher there than ever before.
Whereas, Google’s cost, although higher than it was in the past, is still significantly lower than Facebook.
Keep in mind, that even if there are more advertisers on Google than there are on Facebook, the supply of advertising space is many magnitudes higher. Google’s display network (adsense) gives them a lot of extra advertising stock to sell, in addition to the millions of search result pages they serve daily.
Google’s ad space includes ALL the users of the millions of websites on the internet that serve Adsense to monetize their sites.
Buying Google adspace will probably always be the best deal.
Which is why, I will remain a BIG fan of Google Adwords forever. And will laugh at everyone stupid enough to keep chasing Facebook leads.
Until someone can show me a different network that has anywhere near the supply of ad space available to Google.
And if you understand SUPPLY and DEMAND (or have my team on your side), you can simulate the SAME advantage of Google with on ANY ad network.
