Whenever I get a great business idea, I tend to keep it
private to protect it for fear of someone else copying my idea.
But the truth is, few people have the stamina needed to turn
any idea into reality.
Like years ago when I was still an undergrad, I came up with

hotels, bed-n-breakfasts, and restaurants. I spent two years trying to figure

And later, Apple came out with the iPhone & iPad which had
computing power, GPS modem, and broadband mobile internet which eliminated the
need for my hardware altogether!
On another occasion, I came up with an idea with a fellow
classmate to create a mobile payment system…where people could use their mobile
phones to pay for things by sms.
Recently, I heard such a system exists in some parts of
Africa where smartphones are less common.
My point is, all these were great ideas which someone else
is now making money from instead of me.
And it’s not because they “stole” my ideas. It’s because
they had more belief in them than I did, so they invested money and time into
developing them and now they’re reaping the rewards.
So you shouldn’t really worry about sharing your ideas lest
they get stolen.
You should instead worry that if you don’t believe in your
ideas enough to turn them real, someone else will believe in them more and make
them a reality before you do.
Ideas alone have no value. The Belief in an idea is what business
really competes on.
