The "Science" (lol) of Vulgar Sales Emails

Do you get hate mail?
You know the kind that’s SO ANGRY the hateful response is riddled with misspelling and awful grammar?
of course you don’t.
But Ben gets a TON of it.
I rarely ever get any lately and I can’t say it’s a GOOD thing, although I might cry to my mommy if someone hated me 🙁 lol
Unlike me, Ben Settle, the world’s top email conversion expert, specifically TRIES to piss off his list and encourages others to do the same.
…Says that polarizing an audience increases sales and reduces refunds.
And I testify to the truth of this claim.
One of the most common reasons people site for reading my daily emails is that they are “on the edge of offensive but always logically on point.”
So yeah, you SHOULD create two opposite camps in your audience; those who will fight tooth and nail to defend your point of view and those who strongly disagree and despise you – and yet they keep tuning in to hear from you.
I’ve often received emails from people who ENJOY my emails but question my use of slang, slurs, and strong language.
I laugh.
So many are fond of claiming that effective communicators can communicate without resorting to potty-mouthiness.
And perhaps that makes me an IN-effective communicator haha, but I’ve got to be true to myself, and I looooove to cuss.
Besides, vulgar words are PART of our language and how we communicate naturally with one another.
Swear words are SUCH effective communication short-cuts.
Like, if I call someone an “arsehole”…
Am I really just describing them with the physical characteristics of a RECTUM?
Or am I getting across an EMOTION how I feel toward that person?
He make me ANGRY! I HATE him. He is not nice.
Could I get across that meaning by just saying, “he’s not very nice”?
Probably not.
So I call him a straight up arsehole and then my audience can understand a far richer meaning about my emotions toward that person. I don’t waste their time with unnecessary words. And they get a laugh out of it–At least, those with a sense of humour.
Those who hate it can go FUGK themselves!
Vulgarity and audience polarization are TWO different weirdly effective conversion techniques.
Vulgarity does not imply polarization and neither does polarization imply you must be vulgar.
Ben never (hardly) swears in emails, but he WILL rile you up.
So please don’t take this to mean YOU should cuss out your mailing list with the aim of offending them.
Nobody wants to hear from someone crude and insulting who adds ZERO value to their lives. Do it wrong, and you’ll find yourself very quickly without subscribers.
