Some still remember a performance I gave on Facebook long ago.
As I unsubscribed from the “newsletters” of all the industry’s Gooroos, I posted a corresponding status update:
“__(insert gooroo name)__ F*GK OFF!”
It was quite hilarious. The updates came in quick succession and there were 10’s of them in a row.
That was also the day I became the Anti-Gooroo you’ve come to know and love.
Many wondered what came over me, and some still take the time to write in and ask, “Jim why are you so angry all the time?”
Well, reading a forum thread today brought back all those nasty memories.
Someone had the balls to challenge a marketing system that’s in “fad” these days.
And its members came to the defense of the system, attacking him.
I don’t feel particularly one way or the other about the system. But it’s what one lady said that bugged me:
“Well, so-and-so, so-and-so, and so-and-so who are all on the leaderboard and 30,000 others can’t all be wrong. I will follow THERE lead. How much are you making? Should I follow you? I follow the ones who make the money.”
I LOVE when people make the “THERE” and “THEIR” confusion error.
Makes them such easy targets for mockery.
But look at how STUPID and typical of this industry her statement was.
All the people she mentioned on the leaderboard have been on the leaderboards of EVERY marketing system fad that came about. Without exception.
Only to then switch to a NEW system and get on the leaderboard of that too.
If they were ALWAYS right in selecting a system to promote, how is it possible that they could be wrong SO MANY TIMES.
Clearly their success has little to do with the system they join – but rather the fact that they are the modern day Pied Pipers leading others to their doom.
Just because 30,000 people have joined a system, doesn’t mean anything other than the creators of the system have done a good job of marketing it.
FACT: The majority is ALWAYS wrong.
Remember the story of the Pied Piper who led the rats from an infested village into the river to drown?
Later, he returned for revenge, using the same magic pipe to lead the children of the village to their death.
Only 3 survived: A lame child who could not keep up, a blind child who could not see where the others went, and a deaf child who was not affected by the tune but followed part of the way out of curiosity.
And that’s what happens when you follow the crowd.
Everyone who follows is doomed.
Anyone who doesn’t follow survives.
That’s why, when I see the crowd moving toward something, I always move opposite them.
And I’ve come to recognize the Pied Piper and his deceptive henchmen with their attractive lifestyles and their ugly tunes.
There’s only ONE way to protect yourself.
Do your own thing. Choose not to follow the Piper.
