Hey,
I’d like to kick off by thanking everyone who applied
promptly to the mentoring program I announced yesterday.
The caliber of applicants is astounding, and some of the
projects are very interesting.
I must also apologise for not having included more details…but
it’s an idea I’ve been tossing around in my mind for a few months now.
And I was trying to figure out a way to make it work.
I know there’s a lot of people out there who could use hands-on
mentoring to get their website and traffic going.
No matter how many training programs I release, no matter
how detailed and thorough–understanding something you learn in THEORY and DOING
it, in practice, are two different things.
Here’s what I mean…
In 2010 I started an Intern program where I partnered up
with people who were carefully selected from my subscribers…and I trained them
on everything I know about traffic and online marketing.
They paid for my time with their time, doing odd jobs for me
when I had too much client work to handle on my own.
Later, my graduates became the only people I outsource work
to when I need high quality work done. The only people I refer my own clients
to, because I know they won’t disappoint or stray from the quality I’m known
for.
These people learned more in a year with me than they
learned in YEARS struggling online by themselves.
Of course this mentoring program is different.
In this case, you and I BOTH will be working on YOUR
business, often in real-time.
So the selection criteria is different.
In this mentoring program, it’s about:
Whether I like you or not…
Whether I find your business / or skills interesting enough
to want to work with you for an entire year on your project…
And whether or not you can afford my time.
This last point is one that some people have a hard time
understanding as was clear by the mixed response to yesterday’s email.
While many subscribers were thrilled about what I was
offering and jumped to apply, others quickly got defensive about this line in
the email:
“Poor people should
not apply”.
Here’s the thing…
There’s no leverage in mentoring.
It’s a HUGE commitment that requires me to give ALL my
attention to a SINGLE student.
This takes me away from my own work so I can work on someone
else’s…or in this case, THREE people’s businesses.
It’s very different from an info-product where I only teach
ONE time, record it, and it doesn’t matter if I sell to 10 or 1000 or 100,000
people, there’s no time investment beyond the initial work.
My point…
Don’t underestimate how big a commitment offering a
mentoring program is. Most people can barely manage ONE business, let alone 3
in addition to their own.
Which is why I deliberately chose the words “poor people” –
because I already know in advance that such a program is NOT going to be cheap.
It cannot possibly be cheap. It’s impractical, it’s infeasible for it to be
cheap.
And I don’t want anyone who can’t afford it to waste their
time applying or to get their hopes up for it.
In fact, cost should not be a major talking point for applicants.
Instead, you should be asking:
* how much time
will we be able to spend together, jim?
* what will you
help me with, jim?
* what kind of
access will I have to you, jim?
… “How much is this going to cost,” should be the LAST
question on your mind.
I told you already, it’s expensive.
So if price is going
to decide whether or not you’re going to apply, then please don’t.
If money is an issue for you, YaghiLabs has LOTS of “self
study” training programs you can choose from.
This mentoring opportunity is JUST for people who need one-on-one
help from me, and can afford it.
So if you’re interested, apply by replying to this email.
Send me a copy of your CV, show me your website (if you have
one), and tell me what project you want to work on. I’ll send you more
information if I’m interested in working with you.
