Shameless Robbers of Money

I miss the old days.
Back when the only phone anyone owned was “THE land line”.
Remember how we used to answer its rings?
“Hello?”
Ya know, with the raised intonation of a question.
There was mystery, suspense, excitement. I mean, my sisters and I used to actually RACE each other and scratch one another’s eye’s out to be first to the phone.
I miss how…
When I didn’t want to be disturbed, I could just ignore the phone’s ringing and then claim I was out. Could do this for several days in a row and never be called out (no pun intended).
Nowadays…
The fuggin phone follows you to the damn bathroom.
Can’t claim to be “out”…you have to waste valuable brain-processing time to come up with creative excuses for not picking up.
And even if you have the best excuse, it only gets you off the hook for a minute.
Because there’s the pesky “missed call” feature that makes the imposition to call back later.
Doesn’t matter if the call happened a WEEK ago, you’re still responsible for calling back. People have such little self-respect that they are prepared to quiz each other and challenge one another’s excuses for NOT wanting to speak to them.
And if that’s not bad enough…
A really pesky friend might call several times, then leave you voicemail, and send an SMS.
But you know what really messed everything up?
The gad dang internet!
If you’re unfortunate—you have Whatsapp on your mobile. Nothing is more annoying than this app! It goes so far as to tell people when their “faux sms” was READ by you. So there’s a notification letting you know the message went through…
And another to tell you when the other person saw the message!
Fills me with dread to even unlock my phone lest I have to respond.
Screw that. Seriously.
Communication is all about “real time” now.
As if we needed more distractions…as if we were all begging to have our personal time invaded by outsiders.
I blame society for being so fickle as to let commercial entities dictate to them what they NEED to own.
How is this any different from my days as a bachelor living in Australia.
I had these annoying pals who’d drop in unannounced and knock incessantly at the door…and if I didn’t open, they’d jump my fence and peek through my windows!
Laugh all you want…
But this is what people are doing to each other every day as they obnoxiously stick themselves into each other’s time with Facebook, skype, MSN messenger, email, SMS, voicemail, and phone.
Technology SUCKS personal-space out of you.
Technology SUCKS your time.
Technology robs our money.
I don’t care if you’re not bothered by it. It bugs the heck out of me!
You know what else sucks?
No one ever contacts you to tell you they want to GIVE you something. They always WANT. And one phone call is all it takes to ROB you of a day of your life. A day you could be dedicating to something else…
Like reaching your goals…
Like saving your home…
Like keeping your family clothed and fed.
The only real benefit I see to the whole thing is people are now open up to a GAZILLION avenues we can reach them with commercial advertising messages.
Technology was only invented to sell us more shyt we don’t need.
But hardly anyone uses technology the way it was meant to.
No, we let others use it to suck our time and money.
Here’s a bit of advice from one entrepreneur to another…
If you’re going to download some new communication app or signup to a new social medium…make damn sure you use it for what it was invented.
To sell stuff.
