target people who are spending 10k/mo+ on Adwords? I’d like to help them spend
their marketing money on some high-end press releases that will get them into

It’s actually a VERY cool problem. And here’s why…
Sometimes you’re selling a product for whom the ideal
audience is hard to “pinpoint” through the search they run.
Search marketing, for some types of products is
straight-forward.
Say you run a job board website and you’re trying to promote
the jobs on it. Well you can target anyone running job search queries and it
would be a good bet they’d be interested in your ad.
But what if…
Your “underprivileged scholarship” ad is best suited to kids
from homes that earn less than 20,000 dollars a year…
Or you only want the “purchase manager” to click your enterprise
software ad…
Or you want only middle-aged single mum’s to click your diet
ad…
How do you pinpoint those people when you’re
search-marketing?
Easy.
Use the KickStart method:
First, target the need with keywords…then target the person with
the ad.
Let’s use Chris for our example.
He mentioned he wants people spending a certain amount of money
on Adwords. It’s too specific…let’s generalize.
These people may either be running their own accounts or
using an agency.
But if they’re searching, they’re having some kind of
problem.
We get our ad in front of everyone running any kind of
search specifically about PPC advertising (Adwords is a kind of PPC, isn’t it?)…
Since we’re not paying for the clicks, we don’t care if we’ve
over-reached. If we’re going to find our specific guys, we have to cast a wide
enough net to find them in there.
Next, we write an ad that basically says “click me only if
you’re spending over 10k on adwords”. Not in those words, obviously…but that’s
the goal we’re going for.
And just like that, you get access to lots of people…and
only PAY for the people who are in your target group.
You can do the same thing with any special type of prospect
you need clicking your ad.
