How many emails will annoy your customers?

Here’s a funny tactical question i came across in a forum i was following…

   “How often should you send a blast email without annoying your customers?”

Many answers he got were along the lines of testing for the “perfect time” to send, clever segmenting of the mailing list with automatic triggers (for more relevant messaging), and so on.

what a crock of shit.

if you’ve got the manpower and resources to hire a dedicated email optimisation specialist (separate from your email copywriter) who would geek out on this stuff, then GO FOR IT.

For the rest of us peasants, we neither have the time nor the money to waste on this nonsense.

Me personally?

I just write the kind of emails i’d wanna read. and i don’t segment anything. meaning, the same email is sent to my ENTIRE list,  leads, customers, everyone.


i email whenever i want.

does it annoy my subscribers? I don’t know. but i have no problem with anyone who doesn’t like it fucking right off. they’re no use to me.

and your UN-subscribers are of no use to you either. Focus on your buyers.

the truth is the only people who matter are the ones who buy or realistically MIGHT buy later. and one thing i can tell you about both, from experience, is they are HAPPY when they get an email from you. i know it’s hard to believe, but why subscribe if they’re not interested in hearing from you? and why not unsubscribe if they’re annoyed?

it’s because the people who remain subscribed want to hear from you!

which is why, if list-building is a part of your sales strategy (which it should be if you are smart), you should email often, as often as possible.

Emailing regularly does a few things for you.

first, it is a way to roll the dice. Not all your traffic are buyers, and not everyone is a buyer right now. building a list, and emailing it consistently increases your chance of finding people with whom you resonate, it deepens your relationship with them, and it ensures you’re top of mind when the time is right for them to buy.

secondly, emailing often is practice that improves your selling skills and gives you tons of data on what entices your traffic to buy, what excites your subscribers, and what they’re interested in hearing about.

besides, it’s not about the perfect frequency that suits your (un)subscribers…it’s about finding your own groove and whatever is a comfortable frequency for you to write. It’s gotta be frequent, but not overly ambitious.

Ever see those noobs at the gym every January?
