Growth hacking 5 leads for the price of 1

i believe that if you have the balls and ambition to decide you’re going to try to make a living using the internet…

then you should assume you’ll need to pick up some competency in technology.

Don’t avoid it.

If you try, it’s like saying you wanna build your own house, but DIY just isn’t your thing. in this case, you may as well buy or rent something ready made.

Few people know this, because i don’t talk about it much, but my first breakthrough when i was starting out…and come to think of it…a big part of my online business success was owed to my technological abilities, which few marketers have. In fact, probably only the top programmers in the world have my skill.

About 2 decades ago, i dabbled in, and lost a little money with Google Ads.

I drove traffic straight to an affiliate offer, using ads from the publisher, that he claimed was “top performing”, to his landing page that supposedly converted at 60%. I remember being baffled because none of his marketing material performed ANYWHERE near what he said.

Like it wasn’t even in the same ballpark!

One day i got the brilliant idea to make a landing page (hand-coded in HTML) so i could get leads on my OWN mailing list and i’d email them the same affiliate offer i previously failed with.

Lo and behold, within days, i had my first sale. Soon, more followed.

but i was never really happy with the volume i was getting. it was a lot of work and really slow. $50 bucks couldn’t exactly buy that much traffic back then either.

so i got this idea to change my landing page, which was a stock standard “squeeze page” into a more dynamic, interactive experience. I started learning PHP just to do this.

what it was, was a questionnaire of 10 questions relevant to the offer i was making. And i promised anyone who would fill it out, that i’d send them a personalised report to help them with their problem. I took all the questions and their potential answers and i came up with blocks of what amounted to pieces of a personalised sales presentation. And then my code would just stitch the right pieces together and just like that…i hand-built one of the earliest “Quiz Funnels.”

But see, for this thing to work, i still wanted to collect leads as subscribers. After all, i was paying for clicks on Google, and turning visitors into subscribers would give me multiple opportunities to market to them.

So i figured, after a person has answered the questionnaire, that was the perfect time to ask them for their email address to email them the report. They were already invested by this point, and sending a personalised report was a good reason to ask for their email.

The amount of technology i had to mess with to pull this off baffles my mind even now.

Like i had to write my own mailer. and perhaps email software were less sophisticated at the time, but i don’t even know how i managed to get these emails past spam filters without the use of a reputable email marketing service.

which, btw, i didn’t even have the money for an email marketing solution. The whole thing was home spun.

Now, i’ll give you the spoiler and then we’ll come back to the story…

this page converted at a ridiculously high rate. I don’t recall the exact number, but it was DECENT.

My brilliant ideas didn’t end there, though.

I figured if i got someone to complete this questionnaire–it was fun and informative– perhaps, maybe, they’d wanna tell their friends.

This is LONG before the retweet and the Facebook share and all that. It was still MySpace days. So i asked them, in a second step, before sending the report, if they’d give me the emails of 4 friends who might like to try this out too.

Sure enough, pretty soon i was generating FIVE leads for the price of one.

And this, is how i quickly turned my $50/month ad budget into $2,500/month and thousands of leads.

See how much of an advantage one has by knowing some tech?

btw, there’s a good reason why i’ve been using the same marketing methodology for the past two decades. Obviously, it works. This methodology is what i teach in the Super Traffic Machine.

Sorry, i digressed to make that side-sales pitch 😛

Fortunately, these days, there’s SO many tools already around that help us do amazing things in business, really easily, that even *iiii* don’t bother to program things from scratch any more.

There’s no point.

Although, if a tool doesn’t do what i want, i have no problem digging under the hood and fixing it.

but being willing to learn a few of the simpler technical skills can go a long way toward your success. It is a technology-driven business  you seek, after all. So it makes sense to try and improve and learn  new technical skills every chance you get.

In the end, it can give you a HUGE business advantage, stretch your scarce resources, and get you better results.

And because i firmly believe in this, i have NEVER tried to appeal to the masses by avoiding teaching technical things when they’re important to learn.

i’m a good bridge for you.

because i understand that technical stuff intimately. but because of my intimate knowledge of marketing, i also know how to make it make sense to others who are not technical.

Today, i put the finishing touches on the website i’ll be demonstrating how to build at the end of this month (if you’ve joined us already, that is).

Before tearing it down, ahead of the presentation, i gave a walk-through of the website to the student to whom the marketing material belongs. He was excited that i’m gonna teach him how to do all this on his own.

He was STUNNED at the beauty and functionality of his new site, built FULLY custom, without writing a single line of code.

He was amazed at all the power that he’d have at his fingertips.

And he was shocked that everything was running for practically free on his website…all stuff he used to have to jump from service to service and pay for before!

In fact, i even got him to bring all his different little side projects and websites under the one interface.

This training, it’s gonna be EPIC.

Anyone who misses it will kick themselves–if they’re even smart enough to  realise what they missed out on. It’s an absolutely mammoth undertaking for me to present it all. I didn’t skimp on anything. i wanted to make sure you’d have everything you need to run a fully functional, revenue generating business online.
