Google
called me…
Not today. T’was
a few months back actually.
The lady on
the line sounded like a GEEK reading from a script. A little
comical to be honest…but I shouldn’t have been so dismissive. Because she showed
me something …
Quite brilliant!
Her one idea
was responsible for a big decrease in my LEAD cost and a dramatic increase in
quality traffic.
Here’s what
happened:
I was out to
dinner when I got the call.
The voice
on the line said, “I’m Dina from Google.”
“Hi Dina,” I
responded cautiously.
“I’m your
account manager and I’m supposed to help you get more traffic out of your ad
budget. Do you have a few minutes to chat?”
Haha. “I’m SUPPOSED
to,” she really said that!
“Sure. How do you propose to do that?” i said coyly.
Soon she
launched into a standard, and boring set of recommendations that I was
intentionally NOT doing.
Why?
Because
unlike the Google Rep, I actually run a business. And the things she cares
about aren’t the same things I care about.
No. Dina
had nothing new to say for quite a while.
But then
she did.
“You don’t
seem to be doing anything special for mobile targeting,” Dina said.
Sure. That’s
true.
“Is your
website mobile-friendly?”
Funny thing…Not
long before her call, i had redesigned my landing page– and just for fun, I made
it mobile friendly.
I told her
as much.
“Ok. Well
let’s look at your mobile traffic,” Dina said.
She pulled up
a report that showed I got “lower cost per click” on mobile devices.
But i wasn’t doing anything to take advantage of it.
To tell you
I was surprised would be a fib. But she’d grown in confidence as the call wore
on. And she made a solid case for why I should write ads specific to mobile users.
I got off
the call, and ran a SINGLE test ad for mobile.
Then I forgot
about it for a few days.
Soon, i
noticed more LEADS than usual were joining my newsletter.
I took a
look.
WTF!
That
ad on its own gave me a 30% increase in LEADS…for a QUARTER of the original
cost.
With just
ONE ad!
Ever since,
I’ve been obsessive about creating “responsive” webpages.
And now I do care
about mobile traffic.
So should you.
This is why I
spent the day today testing the “responsiveness” of the Google Friendly Theme that I’ll
be giving away FOUR days from now.
So it is Mobile Friendly.
And so YOU can
get cheap leads from mobile when you use it too.
(btw, “Responsive”
means a page that resizes and reorganizes itself to suit the size of the screen displaying it.
The same information is presented but drawn and laid-out differently for
each device.)
On
Wednesday, all the students who attend my 90 Minute Website webinar will get a
copy of this responsive Google Friendly Theme.
You just install it like i show you, and your entire
website will redraw itself on mobile devices.
Making it easier for new mobile visitors to subscribe to your mailing list and buy your products.
