Last night, on the way out of the house, I found the family gathered in the courtyard.
I’m not a fan of Jordan or its people – or really anything about it – except two things I love more than anywhere else in the world:
The family and the summer. Together.
Every year we hold a family reunion in July (that’s Summertime in the Northern Hemisphere) when all the uncles and cousins who live abroad come home to visit.
But OMG words can’t capture how BEAUTIFUL summer is here. At night, all you want to do is sit in silence under the night-sky, with this gentle cooling breeze caressing your face.
Flood-lights light the space in the courtyard. Everyone gathers after the day’s work around tea, nuts, cakes, herbal drinks made from the garden itself, fresh apricot, watermelon, grapes; whatever the trees are bearing…and whatever keeps the hands occupied late into the night.
Anyway – my uncle, aunt, her husband, a few of their children, and my grandmother were all sitting there.
Father was missing. He was spending the night at our Country-Home while working on a novel.
As the rest of us talked, we remembered one of our best loved cousins, Dina. She lives in Atlanta with her family.
The last time I’d seen her she was a toddler. It seems each of the years earlier she came to the reunion, I happened to be in the US on business.
So I told a funny story about how her older sister and I were driven crazy by one movie in particular Dina loved as a toddler.
“Baby’s Day Out”.
OMG! Do you remember that movie?
Dina INSISTED that she see it EVERY TIME we sat at the television. Literally several times a day for 2 weeks. Her sister and I memorized the movie line by line. I shit you not!
As soon as I said the name of the movie, everyone had a comment about it.
I mean, EVEN MY GRANDMA and she, not only doesn’t speak English, but she’s ILLITERATE!
Yeah, she can’t read. She can’t spell. She can’t write.
In fact, she hasn’t left the walls of Yaghi Castle since it was built. She didn’t even come to my wedding.
Yet she actually related an entire scene from the movie, and all she had to go on was the NAME, which I said in English!
And my aunt’s family speaks Arabic only as far as I know. But they knew the movie and said it was great.
Uncle said he’d seen it a gazillion times with THE SAME Dina when he was doing his BA in the US!
I was SHOCKED that everyone sitting there had seen this movie.
So I pulled out my iPhone subtly and typed into my Idea Bank the basis of this email.
Because what I realized is this…
As annoying as it may be to see the same movie repeated year after year after year on every television station, in every part of the world–
It’s exactly what makes MY marketing method so effective. Whether it’s PPC ads, social media status updates, or emails – I’m on every “station”, every medium, repeating the same message (with a different spin). Everyone on this planet is going to see it.
And that’s a Marketing Philosophy at YaghiLabs. We believe our clients need to be everywhere too:
