Hey–was just thinking about your little traffic problem yesterday…
Coz I remembered the feeling of panic people get when they finally
get traffic–but then find out it’s not converting to sales quickly enough.
There’s this guy I know who did the worst thing imaginable…and the sad thing is, almost everyone does it shortly after they get traffic.
For months his business was on hold.
Actually, he didn’t even attempt to sell anything; there was
no point. There was no one to sell to.
So he spent countless hours pouring over his strategy.
Overhauled his entire website, redesigned it. Got all his ducks in a row.
Everything was in the right place…and it was perfect.
Finally, when everything was ready, he decided to hire a
professional to help send traffic to his new site.
The hired-hand was an expert. So, needless to say, traffic
New people streamed in from all corners of the globe. His
freshly designed homepage attracted traffic from far and near.
For a few days, everything was gravy. He was walking on
Soon, though, his excitement turned to panic.
He realized, even with all the traffic coming in, he wasn’t get the results he was hoping
Conversion rate on the landing page was disappointingly low.
Sales, when they came in, didn’t amount to much money.
In short, his business was broken.
So just a few short weeks later, he pulls the plug.
I says to him, I say…”WHY!??? Why did you kill the traffic?”
“Oh,” he said. “My sales funnel is not as good as I thought.
I think I have to stop the traffic and revise the whole thing.”
And THAT…right there, is the MOST DEADLY mistake you can make.
It was hard enough for you to get traffic started in the first place…let
alone having to restart it after you’ve killed the whole thing.
Traffic is the life-blood of a web business. It’s what keeps
To STOP traffic to “fix” the business is kinda like a surgeon
who can’t fix a live patient…
Stops the heartbeat and drains all blood to operate.
The patient DIES.
Even if the heart is completely replaced
with a brand new perfect one, it’s tough to bring a dead guy back to life.
Without blood flowing through his veins for even a few seconds, his brain gets damaged and every cell in the body begins to die.
Makes no sense does it?
I’m no doctor, but I know even in open-heart surgery, the
best of modern medicine allows a doctor only to slow-down the patient’s heart and
bypass the areas that need work.
Even then, the patient is on all sorts of artificial life-support
mechanisms to make sure he stays alive WHILE the operation is going on.
You can’t kill your patient for a couple of hours to perform surgery, then give him a few slaps on the face and he’s good as new.
So yah, traffic is the BLOOD of your web business.
Once you got traffic pumping through its veins, you can’t
afford to lose the pulse while you work. It won’t recover.
Slow down traffic, if you need to.
Replace one source of traffic with another…
But Never, EVER stop traffic. It will kill your business.
You know what, though?
I bet this advice falls on deaf ears…
