Has Google ever offered to build a traffic campaign for you?
If not, you can ask them to. The service is free for new Adwords
Give it a go, if you want.
But this little story might change your mind.
One of our very own students managed to BEAT
Google’s staff at their own game by using the KickStart Method–and had them admit their defeat!
The story begins a few short weeks ago, when Sherri ordered a
private consultation with me.
She asked that I take a look at two campaigns setup for her
by Google staff.
“What do you think?”
A campaign setup by the mighty Google themselves–I think
that would be a great example to model off.
I popped in for a look.
My first impression was, “They’re alright”.
Target keywords were grouped into tight clusters.
But I didn’t understand why.
In my opinion, 4 or 5 groups could have easily formed just
one. Especially because they all showed the same or very similar ads…
The campaign structure was somehow “off”.
They wrote ads using Dynamic Keyword Insertion–a feature
that automatically inserts the same text the searcher searches for, into the
title of the ad they see.
I’m not a fan. But that’s a matter of personal style.
So far, nothing was seriously wrong.
Of most concern though..
…was how they came up with their Cost-Per-Click bids for each
keyword–(that’s the dollar amount they suggested Sherri offer to pay per successful
“hit” sent to her website.)
It was arbitrary and expensive.
Sherri hadn’t told them what a “hit” was worth to her, nor how
much she expected to earn per visitor–how could she?
She didn’t know yet.
Anyway, rather than tell Sherri to kill their campaigns, I suggested
she leave them on and run a KickStart campaign alongside them.
I helped her setup a new campaign using my Traffic KickStart
method and told her to allocate just a small part of her budget to it.
“Test them against each other,” I said.
Whichever makes more money, she could redirect more of her budget to it.
Yesterday, we heard from Sherri again.
She was baffled.
Her account manager at Google reached out to her saying:
campaign is getting DOUBLE the traffic on HALF the budget of mine. I have no
idea how it’s doing so good. Pause my campaign and give the full budget to
There you have it, ladies and gentlemen.
From the mouth of Google’s own Ad Rep, straight to your ears.
KickStart has them stumped and amazed.
And even though they don’t know why Sherri’s KickStart campaign did better, I do.
When you use the KickStart Method, you build campaigns with
a BUSINESS-to-PEOPLE focus.
You don’t write ads just to get clicks…
…You write ads that invite customers.
You don’t target keywords…
…You target people.
You don’t pay click-costs arbitrarily.
…Every cent that goes out is only spent because it makes more dollars come in.
That’s why you don’t let a glorified “tech support” build
your ad campaigns.
You learn KickStart and YOU build them–no one knows your business
better than you.
