Do YOU use WordPress?
I do too. But I’ve discouraged people starting out from running their business on WordPress.
It’s a slow vehicle for “autopilot” traffic.
Here’s what I mean…
Few years back, I was introduced to a well-known marketing “gooroo” who was famous for record sales from stage in any event he spoke at.
Well, a couple of good friends asked me to fly to California to work on a project with this guy. First order of business was to raise funds for the project.
Little did we know…the gooroo we got in bed with was also a drug-addict and a bit of a scam artist who dreamed of having an autopilot business. One where he could JUST SELL.
I mean, he was great at selling…But he was too lazy to deliver products in exchange for money he took.
Like I said, we didn’t find out till later. All we knew about him was that the major players in Online Marketing endorsed him and he had important friends. So we trusted him with strategy.
The plan was: Give him leads and let him close them on the phone.
What would he sell?
Nobody knew. I mean, we talked about the possibility of an in-person coaching program, but no concrete plans were laid down.
Soon we had lots of coaching sessions scheduled and he was bringing in tens of thousands of dollars in sales. No one bothered to ask any questions…
But I was concerned.
I wanted to know what we were promising to teach but he was dismissive when I asked. So I listened to a couple of his sales calls. And got the BIGGEST shock of my life.
The guy was willing to say literally anything. He sold any product; regardless if we could deliver it or not. He’d just find out what the prospect wanted and told them they’d get it if they paid.
Whatever the prospect could afford. He squeezed for as much as he could.
I told the other partners in a panic and we scrambled to create these ambitious products on the fly.
Fortunately, we salvaged our reputation. But he ran off with our payment.
What’s this got to do with WordPress and YOU?
Online entrepreneurs think that business on the web is magic and different from regular business. That anyone should be able to make dough on “autopilot”.
But hey, business has never been like that. It’s a machine that uses “people with needs” for fuel and outputs happy customers.
Autopilot, businesses are FORGOTTEN businesses. They can’t do this.
The gooroo who scammed us got the selling part alright. But as soon as he was exposed, he became short 3 fools to do the work. That was the last scam he ever pulled.
Business is… and always has been… like riding a bike.
You gotta pedal to keep riding.
And never forget, a business with a website is STILL a bike. Sure, technology makes for a more efficient vehicle. But even a bike with an engine (a motorbike?) needs someone to keep pushing the throttle to move.
With WordPress, you have a heavy hunk of metal for an engine. Even if you push the throttle, it goes slow…because it doesn’t have traffic.
But there are better places to start a website. Powerful engines that give you access to lots of traffic. It’s not autopilot in the traditional sense…but when traffic exists, you can spend your time converting it to happy customers.
Learn how to do this in Section 2.9 of the Internet Business Academy here:
This training is NOT for the autopilot dreamer who thinks that business is “set and forget”. Traffic could be automatic, but you still have to sell and deliver.
9 great value-packed modules in the IBA show you how to do the rest of the steps so you can access LOTS of traffic immediately…AND if you’re willing to keep pushing the throttle, I’ll show you how to keep riding.
See you inside!
