Advice for the Traffic Addict

This is gonna be a quickie coz I gotta clean out the lab
today.
So hey!
Remember yesterday I told you I was meant to see a doctor? Well
he said something that’s been itching my brain since.
See I went to see an orthopedic surgeon for some neck and
back strains I’ve been experiencing lately. I figured he was going to end up
prescribing some stronger pain killers and send me on my way, like many before
him.
To my surprise he didn’t. He said:
“I’m going to refer
you for physiotherapy and prescribe swimming daily. Meanwhile you shouldn’t try
to treat your problem with medicines. They’ll just deceive you – you NEED be
aware of the pain so you can make the right lifestyle changes.”
Woah!
Wait a sec. A doctor who DOESN’T believe in prescribing pain
killers?
But here’s the thing.
He was exactly right. I’d been on pain meds and anti-inflammatory
this and that. But they didn’t do a damn thing. They didn’t even so much as
MASK the pain. They just made me sleepy.
So why is this even relevant to you?
Well, people come to me with sick businesses all the time. And
I have the wonderful task of being the business doctor.
But lots of these business owners who come to me for
consultations and advice think their problem is traffic related. And they want
me to JUST show them how to drive traffic.
To their surprise, I ask strange questions like these:
…What product are you selling?
…How much do you make per customer?
..How frequently does your product sell?
..Do you maintain a mailing list?
…How often do you follow-up with your list?
…Are there any upsells?
What in fugk do all these questions have to do with ADVERTISING
AND TRAFFIC?
Plenty.
Most businesses who are desperately starving for traffic are
“traffic” addicts.
See when a business isn’t getting enough traffic, it’s a
symptom of a totally different problem. The pain they’re experiencing is
because they don’t have a working REVENUE model.
Businesses with a working revenue model know exactly how
much advertising they can buy while remaining profitable.
Like for instance, in the YaghiLabs business, I know that our
average customer’s “lifetime value” is $3,000. And that we can comfortably
spend $100 per lead and still be in profit.
And the secret is in our business model, not in my traffic
skills.
If you’re addicted to traffic, it’s like a patient
addicted to pain meds who thinks he’s being treated.
The pursuit of traffic just fools you into thinking you’re in
business. But you’re only in business if you’re selling.
Even online.
The rules don’t change.
