Why are You Being So Dang Sensitive?

Hey there,
It’s been an interesting couple of
weeks…
Hard at work as usual, just a
little busier.
For one, my little brother who just
finished his masters degree in civil Engineering at the university of Auckland
came to visit me in Dubai. He came bearing gifts! At first he gifted me the latest iPad, but
then convinced me to swap it for a Samsung tablet instead. I’m glad I listened.
Even though I’m still familiarising
myself with the device, I actually programmed my first smart-phone App for Android.
It’s meant to help me with my memory
while in deep concentration in prayer. I’m planning to post it to the Google
Play App store for free and will accept donations from people who download it.
I’m really excited because the plan is to start up a charity fund in the name
of my wife for philanthropic works.
Aya who was orphaned as a child has
been putting a percentage of all YaghiLabs earnings into sponsoring orphan
kids. The app I developed will help us grow our contributions to the orphan
cause with a 100% charity product.
However, along with coaching, client
work and consultations, a couple of family business projects, and the latest
DIY Super Traffic Machine project, my health has suffered…
My back is in constant pain. I wake up
with tension headaches that remain with me all day,I creak and crack from every
joint, and I sleep very little.
But I’m not writing today to bore you
with my personal struggles. I’m writing because I want to ask you an important
question.
Why are you so dang sensitive?
Well, not you specifically, but those people who write in all defensive and mad.
Every time I send out an Email someone
writes back offended at something I said that may or may not be referring to
them!
Look, first of all, I’m not writing
about you specifically. I got bigger things to worry about than calling out individuals
with whom I have a personal vendetta.
Secondly, it’s ironic that you’re calling yourself a marketer when you’re so easily offended.
Marketing is all
about getting attention and keeping people’s interest to sell them solutions to
their problems.
It’s like being an artist and saying you
hate the color brown.
An artist must appreciate the beauty in
the coordinated use of any colour.
Similarly, a marketer must be able to
appreciate the beauty of any form of marketing that evokes emotional response.
So before you hit the send button on
your angry reply to me, remember you are replying to a BROADCAST that was sent
to thousands.
You are not the sole recipient.
If you
feel my email is talking directly to you then I have accomplished my purpose. You’re
not upsetting me. In fact you’re giving me feedback that I succeeded in
reaching you and that I hit on a personal pain point of yours.
This is not an accident. And i’m not sorry.
I have an 8,000 word document containing
your most intimate beliefs, pains, and struggles and I strategically poke SOMEONE’s buttons
every day.
If I succeeded in hitting yours that
day, my marketing worked on you.
You have to appreciate the beauty of
that!
Instead of getting mad and sending me a defensive response, you must
ask how can I do the same?
