All The Fun You're Missing

Heya,
Went for a walk with the wife today.
She saw me in good spirits, despite the throbbing headache that’s been with me two days now.
“Jim,” she inquired. “Why so chipper?”
“Well, my love,” I responded. “It is a good day, because I just learned that one of the client campaigns I’m working on is breaking even.”
I don’t think she fully understood what “break even” means.
Because even after I explained that the client reported a sale EVERY day, she asked, “How much are you spending every day?”
I said, “$37”.
She asked, “And how much is each sale worth?”
I said, “$37”.
“Hmm…so what’s the point then?” she asked, puzzled.
Hey, I don’t blame HER for not getting it. But shame on YOU if you’re wondering the same thing.
What’s the point?
The point is you have to learn to identify a success when you see one in your own business. So here’s the tip:
Anything you can make “consistent” is a win. Even a consistent LOSS is better than an INconsistent PROFIT.
Examples of CONSISTENT (wins):
* If you have 2/week, you have a win.
* If you attracted 5 leads/month, you have a win.
* If you spend $50/lead, you have a win.
* If you make $1/email you send, you have a win.
* If you earn $2.50/lead or $0.10/click, you have a win.
Consistent means you know a pattern that you can repeat and get the same result every time.
Like…
* let’s say you make 3 sales/week consistently…if you want 30 sales, you can wait 10 weeks!
* Say you consistently earn $100/email you send…if you want 1,000 dollars, you can send 10 emails!
* Say you consistently earn $10/email subscriber on your list… if you want $50,000, get 5,000 subscribers!
Seems simple.
Why is “breaking even” a win too?
It’s consistent! Look:
* You spend 10 bucks, you make back 10.
* You spend a grand, you make back a grand.
* You spend 5,000, you make back 5,000.
Lemme explain another way.
Say you got an engine for a car, right…but forget the car. What does the engine do on its own?
Nothing.
You give it gas and it just turns the crank-shaft. The engine itself doesn’t move forward or back…it rotates its own shaft round and around while staying in the same spot.
To make use of the engine, you have to mount it into a mechanical device (like a car or bike) that makes use of the rotating crankshaft to move the whole thing forward or back or do something else useful.
Only then can you start optimizing the speed and distance travelled by the object you stick the engine into.
Maybe you make the car lighter, take stuff out, fug with its aerodynamics, increasing the width of the wheels to get more distance for each turn, or you can mess with its fuel burning efficiency.
Basically, you’ll have lots of fun.
But the fun cannot begin…if the engine is broken and fails to turn.
No matter what car you stick it into, even if it’s a Ferrari, the car won’t move an inch.
Heck even if the engine turns in the OPPOSITE direction to what you want, it’s still more useful to you than a broken engine that doesn’t rotate when you give gas.
In the same way, “breaking even” may not move your business forward or back on its own…
But it’s no less necessary than an engine is for a car to move.
You need a machine that consistently takes prospects and makes them into customers. At a profit, at a loss, or at break-even…doesn’t matter. Consistent is all that counts.
Only then can the fun begin.
