Contrary to popular
belief, confirmed optin for cold traffic is a TERRIBLE idea.
I don’t care what the
Gooroo’s say, it’s dumb.
The difference between
confirmed optin and single optin is that if you drive your traffic into your
landing page and then ask for an email address, then you might choose to ask
your prospect to go check their email, where you would send them a confirmation
link they have to click to very deliberately become a subscriber to your mailing
At first glance, it might
seem you’ll get more qualified leads if you ask them to confirm their email
But it rarely works
out that way in practice.
The idea behind
confirmed optin is that if someone enters a fake address just to pass the optin
screen, they will never see the confirmation email, never get to click the
confirmation link, and therefore never get added to your mailing list.
This is supposed to
also reduce spam complaints.
Pshhhh HAHA no it
If you’re going to get
spam complaints, you’ll get them anyway.
But keep this in mind…
If you PAY for
traffic, and you’re paying for every visit to your website, as you would if you
are doing Pay-Per-Click advertising (which is the most cost effective way to
advertise your website and get lots of traffic)…
Then you end up
creating an added level of complexity to getting on your mailing list.
Your mailing list
where you do all your follow-up sales pitching.
And what happens if
someone DOES enter their legitimate email address, but they get too lazy to do
the next step of confirming their optin…
Or they never get the confirmation
email because THAT somehow makes it into their spam folder?
Or what if they don’t
even understand they have to confirm their optin…
You’ll never get to reach
that prospect again.
Basically, this is the
age-old saying: “I’d rather set free 100 guilty men than punish ONE innocent
In this case, while you
MAY get some fake email addresses entered by people who just want to pass your
optin screen, mostly you’ll be rejecting REAL email addresses.
People who may not
open your first email, second, or tenth email…but who’ll open your 11th because
it grabs them.
Besides, there’s a
REALLY simple fix to avoid people putting in fake emails at the optin box…
But for that secret landing page power,
you’re going to need to get a landing page built by our EXPERT traffic team as

Oh and one other thing, the extra step of confirming optin will throw off ALL your tracking, which means you’ll delete otherwise cost-effective, productive Adgroups.
