What in God’s name is this obsession with BACKLINKS?
I don’t get it.
It’s all anyone talks about in traffic forums.
Sure, ok, so the SEO geniuses discovered that Google gives preference in search results to websites that many websites link to.
But let’s stop for a moment and consider EXACTLY why Google is doing this.
Years ago, when search engines were about 120 IQ points DUMBER than Microsoft’s Bing, they would determine where your website should turn up in search rankings based purely on “meta tags”.
Meta Tags were a hidden part of your page that tells search engines which keywords are relevant to your website.
And that’s all the search engines would look at.
But this was short-sighted.
The number of pages on the web were bound to grow exponentially and those tags alone would be impractical to use for website ranking.
Soon, as server space became cheaper and larger and computer processing power got faster, engines would “crawl” the web, download and index summarized versions of every page possible and keep track of important keywords in the content.
They would match queries to the important keywords in their database and rank results in order of “relevance”.
But our annoying marketing predecessors who screw up EVERYTHING and make life more difficult for everyone, they started gaming relevance.
Many of their websites are now “legitimatized”, but in the old days, websites like maktoob.com (now part of Yahoo) began injecting invisible irrelevant high-search-frequency keywords into their websites.
Keywords like “s3x”, and “p0rn”, and “celebrity nud3.”
For a while, search engines tried to get around this NOISE by ignoring keywords that have the same colour as the background. A common strategy those marketers used to make their irrelevant keywords invisible.
But it wasn’t enough.
Soon, they had to start looking for USER feedback. Metrics like:
– Bounce rate
– 3rd party website validation (backlinks)
– and searcher “voting” (click-thru rate in search)
And this is where we’re at now.
SEO is harder than EVER before – and if you want traffic quick, you’re having to go the paid advertising route whether you like it or not.
Google doesn’t CARE how many backlinks your website has pointing into it.
Nor does it care about the anchor text.
Nor the keyword density on yor pages.
What it REALLY cares about, is showing its users the BEST most relevant results.
And you back-link fugkers are getting in the way.
Keep this nonsense up, and getting SEO ranking is going to get increasingly difficult for the most legitimately relevant websites. Cost of SEO will get significantly more expensive and tedious than PPC!
Backlinks are JUST a 3rd party validation mechanism that search engines are forced to look into now.
Mainly because it’s hard to fraud.
All the same, these backlink fugkers go on about how you should write “quality” comments on other blogs and link back to your site.
NO YOU IDIOTS.
You can’t get enough backlinks doing this.
What you SHOULD be focusing on is creating legitimately controversial content on your OWN website which if done correctly will make people WANT to join the conversation by referencing your posts at their websites in reviews, recommendation, and counter-arguments.
It’s a lost art.
A tiny feature of wordpress called Trackbacks was intended to make this easy. But hardly anyone uses it any more.
When someone wants to link to your post. This automatically pings your blog to let it know of the new post.
You should allow these trackbacks because anyone who is interested in hearing another point of view will click through.
Rather than REJECT and DISAPPOVE people who oppose you, friggin APPOVE their trackbacks and let your users see what they say.
It will provoke MORE trackbacks and longer conversations.
And it will get you LOTS of REAL backlinks, the kind that search engines WANT to give priority to.
Oh and rather than leave stupid comments with links to your site on other blogs, why not do an extended rebuttal/commentary at your blog and link to the original post. That’s a LEGITIMATE backlink.
So quit obsessing over backlinks and paying for useless backlinking and spend your time WISELY developing your own website’s content.
