Like I’ve said before…
True businesspeople detach
their emotions from their work.
And if you’re doing
paid advertising (like any serious web entrepreneur must), you need a heart of
So what’s with this
“I’m getting $x/lead
and it’s TOO expensive.”
“I’ve been doing PPC for x-number-of-weeks my lead
cost is not going down.”
“OMG I’ve spent $x on
ads so far without a sale…”
Is the answer To TURN
OFF your ads!?
First let me get this
off my chest:
“MAN THE FUGK UP!”
Keep a cool head. Be
patient. Be systematic. And if you’re not as big as the game, then don’t play.
Go cry to mommy and leave business for the big people.
If you have leads at
ANY rate, thank the lord you have at least that. Most people can’t even get
their silly little heads around just a peep of traffic, let alone a lead at any
Marketing is an
ongoing business challenge of experimentation, with more failure than success.
Even the BIGGEST corporations struggle with it daily and it’s why they hire
marketing firms who will get them more wins than fails.
Case in point…
Recently, I ran a
campaign of my own – and I tend to be aggressive with my personal budget.
My thinking is that my
ad money buys me DATA, not leads.
It keeps me in the
game so I can put my offer in front of lots of people and see where my FUTURE ad-money
is best invested.
The more aggressively I
spend, the quicker I get feedback with which to adjust.
The more aggressively I
spend, the less likely I am to waste time on a bad idea.
So I ran a big budget.
Bid high. Played in a huge account with more keywords than any you’ve ever seen.
Initial results came
They were AWFUL. But I
expected no better.
What was my
click-thru-rate? I didn’t care.
What was my conversion
rate? I didn’t care.
What was my lead cost?
I didn’t care.
All that mattered is WHICH
keywords and ads converted.
For 5 days, I ran at a
cost of over $20/lead in a market I was hoping to cost $3. I didn’t
Each day, I phased out
the ads that didn’t convert once in 24-hours.
Each day, I added the
specific search queries that historically DID convert.
Each day, I raised the
bid on the adgroups that WERE converting.
Each day, I re-organised
And on the 6th day…on
the 6th day…the average lead-cost was down to…
From $20+ to SIX DOLLARS!!
Had I panicked like
the emotional train-wreck amateur sheep-preneur…had I stopped the ads at the
first sign of high cost…I would have NEVER gotten here.
And the following days,
lead cost went down and leads came in larger volume.
Yet still, I did not
delete more than 2 keywords out of hundreds of thousands. And I did not change
my landing page or offer.
So what’s the moral of
If you’re a serious
entrepreneur, you view money differently from most people.
It’s not this holy
sacred finite thing that if you spend too much you’ll be broke.
Because YOUR money is
a seed. You plant it, and it grows.
While others are
consuming their dollars in food, petrol, and waste…you’re planting yours.
And no seed ever
planted in the ground was ever wasted (although many will never grow).
The handful of keywords that i discovered convert to leads…they’re PRICELESS.
They build my most IMPORTANT online marketing assett…my mailing list.
Right now it’s worth $15+ per LEAD per month and will be worth much more as time goes on.
Likewise, hiring YaghiLabs
to build a Done-For-You Traffic campaign is a SEED for YOUR money tree.
