When is the BEST Time to Email?

My internet-lifestyle is weird.
You know that song, “Because the night…belongs to lovers”?
It’s my jam.
I keep a night-time schedule…where I live at night and sleep through the day. My wife keeps me company while I write. Everyone else is asleep, we cook dinner at 3am, and it’s like the whole world belongs to us.
It’s easier this way.
The phone doesn’t ring with incessant distractions, and nobody bothers us with constant time-wasting social commitments.
One of our rituals is to go for a late-night drive, while listening to the radio and singing along to old-school music. Sometimes we drop into the 24-7 McDonalds Drive-thru for a milkshake, or to Reem for a shawarma.
Tonight was no different.
I took Aya out for a drive to clear our heads…but noticed the fuel gauge was low. The last time we were in the car, I’d been teaching Aya to drive stick up and down the hill leading to our driveway.
Anyway, so we decided to fuel up…
But it was like 1am at this point, and the gas-station down the road had OH SO discrete patrol car parked up with all its lights off. So we kept driving to the next gas-station.
That was closed too.
We ended up driving past 5 gas-stations, literally on fumes…until we found the TINIEST ugliest gas station which was open. They got the sale. And the other idiot closer gas stations who thought it unimportant to be open late because not much traffic goes through … they lost the sale.
Keep in mind, labour costs are NEGLIGIBLE. One good Egyptian worker here costs $200/month.
This reminds me of a forum thread I was reading about when the best time to send email broadcasts was.
The fool who started the thread regurgitated the advice that the WORST times to email were MONDAY because people had too many emails stacked up in their work mail and are more busy deleting messages than reading them…
…and on WEEKENDS, you shouldn’t email because people are relaxing from work.
And “of course, open rates are important to you” he said.
First, no– open rates should NOT be important to you.
Sales should be.
Second, most people on a “home business” list are unlikely to be sending info about “quitting their job” to their work address.
And if just ONE person on your list happens to read their emails on a Monday or a Sunday or a Saturday and that person is looking to buy…I’ll sell them and you won’t.
While open rates may be DOWN on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays…I’ve enjoyed sales on EVERY day of the week.
