Recently I was critiquing a new video presentation for a client who’s doing over $100,000/month in revenue and converting about 20% of his leads.
As I watched, I remembered a valuable lesson in sales which sets apart the guys who MAKE big bucks selling online…and the countless nobody Gooroo fanboys who WASTE big bucks online.
And I suddenly felt sick.
To sell convincingly, you have to be yourself convinced.
Either that, or well, you have to be really good at bullshitting convincingly.
The first way is hard.
But the second way … the second way is exponentially HARDER.
The video presentation I watched, it had BELIEF elements to make a person buy. The narrator was CERTAIN of their product. It was believable, even though the income claims made were obscene!
What stood out for me was how the marketer gave case-study screenshots from their OWN affiliate account in their own system. Meaning, they weren’t borrowing authority from how much money and traffic they got from their affiliates…but rather showed the results they got from using their system just like their affiliates.
That system went viral in a matter of MONTHS because of it.
Now that’s bold. It made a believer even out of me!
However, MECHANICALLY adding proof elements, like “I made a gazillion bucks in 30 seconds” style testimonials and $300,000 commission screenshots doesn’t actually make a presentation sell.
I never use screenshots or testimonials, and made hundreds of thousands in sales, regardless. I actually hate testimonials; I find them boring and full of bull.
Selling is about the person behind the sales presentation and their belief about their product.
When someone believes their product is actually helpful to their target customer, they end up using everything they KNOW TO BE TRUE to make the sale. And people listening or reading they believe them–it’s in the tone of their voice, it’s in the style of their writing, and it’s in the confidence they put out.
It simply works, even if all they said was “BLAH BLAH” gibberish, in bum-FUGK Zulu for 2 hours, as long as it’s with the energy of a believer, they succeed.
Here’s what makes me sick…Most people selling online, they’re near-homeless NOBODIES selling “get rich” systems and products as affiliates or marketers.
The broke-a$$ affiliate has never experienced their products and systems delivering the results they’re promising customers. Instead, they have HOPE and it stinks like slimy dung; everyone but them can see right through it.
So everything they say, no matter how technically correct it is, no matter how filled with copywriting tricks and tactics it is, it does a rotten job of convincing.
Affiliates are full of SHYT!
They base their entire business on the idiotic notion that if they just listen to a Gooroo and rehash what they say, fake authority, talk like a big shot, they’ll sell. Yay. Shut up!
Look, it takes a mindset of scamming practiced since you were SIX, ripping off grandma for birthday money and stealing from mummy’s purse to master the art of con. And I’ve met such rich marketers and been taken by their cons so I hate them. And the only thing more fun than their tactics is DYING.
So if you haven’t had practice conning people, then cut it out already. There’s only one way for the ethical to become convincing in sales…
