Why Impressions Don’t Affect Quality Score

“What about QUALITY SCORE?”
To which I respond:
Like they know something about it…and like I’m some idiot who has never heard of it before.
Ok, so somehow I managed to fluke my way into getting 1000’s of home business leads a day for each of my clients. Must be the ONLY logical explanation, right?
When people pay me for their own advice, it makes me laugh.
I actually stole that from Dwayne, the in-house Designer at YaghiLabs. Check out this funny client story:
After we spent days coming up with a perfect landing page design for a client..and I mean Dwayne he’s a bloody legend at this design thing. 20 years experience in the industry–every colour, every font, every margin is put into his creations to achieve a PRECISE PSYCHOLOGICAL purpose…after he made a beautiful design, I showed the mock-up to the client … guess what?
The client came back with her OWN design!
I had no choice but to pass on the suggestions (against my better judgment) and ask Dwayne to make something of it.
Anyway, his British flavor of humour allowed him to laugh it off and say, “In this profession, I’ve grown used to people paying me for their own creations.”
Classic. I had to plagiarise it. So true.
The point is that it’s funny when clients who have no clue about traffic reject the advice they pay me for… in favour of their own mistaken notions.
Anyway, so my approach to traffic is to rack up impressions as high as possible by plastering the client’s ad all over the internet. And then keep the adgroups that get clicks so we can delete the ones that don’t.
Gooroos and their fanboys have uneducated reasoning they heard from some other dipshit law-violating Gooroo with a constant focus on Quality Score which goes like this:
“If you have too many impressions with no clicks, you’ll get a bad quality score and get Google slapped.”
First of all, NO you won’t be Google Slapped for poor quality score, you’ll be slapped for violations of policy and selling illegal crap and scams and ripping people off. That’s a different story. Plus…
Here’s an example of why ANY advertising engine would be retarded to implement such an idiotic policy:
When I’m in Gmail, I hit refresh like 10 times in a row while waiting for an email.
I imagine lots of people do that too.
Each time you hit refresh, the ad changes.
Each advertiser whose ad is displayed (and often rotated) will rack up impressions with no clicks.
We’re not even paying attention to the ads at this point. Such an intelligent advertising engine as Google would know this.
And Google will not penalize the advertiser for this any more than it should penalize the advertiser for fraudulent clicks from their competitors.
With that said, of course, if an advertiser CONSISTENTLY gets few clicks per 100 impressions, and it happens over numerous adgroups and campaigns, and it becomes obvious to the advertising engine that continuing to show this advertiser’s ads when there are more profitable ads for them to show …
Then the ad engine, MIGHT temporarily lower quality score and show that advertiser’s ad(s) less often.
Until this changes at a later time. When and if that advertiser posts some ads that cost them money and make Google money, then the quality score assigned will change.
And I never said that we should keep showing ads that don’t get clicked…
It’s a temporary thing.
Until we find the ads that perform best. Those that consistently don’t get clicks, it really doesn’t matter what their quality score is, since they’ll soon be gone.
This is the strategy that WORKS for getting 1000’s of leads a day for clients who pay for my advice AND TAKE IT. That’s the strategy I ALWAYS use for my campaigns and for the clients I manage advertising for.
