You know what’s a waste of time?
better known as NLP.
I mean, it’s a cool little gimmick and I have as much fun as the next guy watching Derren Browne on YouTube pay for sh*t with a wad of blank paper using nothing but a single command. But really, how useful is this to someone who doesn’t know how to sell or write without tricks?
Like today, some f…ummm nice fella replied to one of my earlier broadcasts and said:
“Oh jim, your emails are so hypnotic and they are full of NLP.”
FOR REAL!? Haha. I never noticed.
Maybe NLP isn’t a crock of crud but its practitioners are full of it.
Hey, it’s not the first time someone accused me of using NLP.
But I’ve NEVER even given it more than a passing glance. Heck, I haven’t even taken a copywriting course.
What people think is NLP and copywriting is no more than WRITING.
Repetition is a way to amplify an important point by repeating it often.
Rhythm is a way to keep long blocks of text interesting by varying sentence length.
Pattern is a way to make phrases flow by using predictable sequence of words.
This is not NLP. It’s simple rules of writing for clarity.
You don’t need to buy an expensive copywriting course either to learn about it.
Just take a college class in writing. Most of what I know, I learned in a 101 university course that was pre-requisite to my first degree. It was called Writing Communication.
So that gives writing technique and leaves your persuasion skills which might need help.
