I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to sell a product online worth a lot of money and what level of success you’ve had with it.

They may not trust your payment provider’s SECURITY (think hackers).
They may not trust the integrity and honesty of your business.

1. A Paypal payment button
When paying with Paypal, a customer knows their credit card details do not have to be exposed to you or anyone else other than Paypal, who are a trusted and secure payment provider.
And if there is ever a problem with YOU, customers know their is a complaint process they can use to get their money back.
2. A refund / cancellation policy (even if valid for a few days)
You show integrity when you offer the ability for a customer to back out of a buying decision should they choose to.
But there’s a few special techniques to ensure you don’t get ripped off by serial refunders.
3. An instalment plan
Customers often feel more comfortable paying for a large purchase with multiple payments. If they change their mind or can’t afford to make a large payment in one purchase, they have the option to lower their risk. This is critical and will make all the difference for your conversion.

4. A customer support phone number
Placing a phone number on the payment page allows customers to a) speak to a live human who may comfort them or answer any last minute questions, or b) take the payment over the phone (more trusted than paying online).

These are the basics.
There are a few more ways to earn trust and create a large value perception.

– physical products are more trusted then electronic ones,
– services (as opposed to products) are expected to cost more.
